  • rub rail end caps???

Hey, any of you out there have a source for rub rail end caps? I have an idea of what mine looked like but no picture. I've found some made of zinc crap but not in stainless or aluminium. The end caps I need are straight, and about 4" long.

          zamak...lasts how long???

Here's what I found. Don't know how long it will last. If I keep the boat away from salt water, and covered during out of season, maybe a long time.

I ordered a pair today. Too bad I couldn't find this style in stainless steel.

            Rub rail end caps

Your project is looking good Darrel, glad that you found some bling that you like, to finish off the rail. This elusive part is one of the first things people notice on a resto, but is usually the last item to locate before floating. I was hoping that you would spin an aluminum cone on your lathe and cut in half, so I could purchase a set of your custom fabrications...

For all of those in a similar pickle, while searching for the perfect ends, destined for the Skagit/McChesney project, I located some sweet (affordable) aluminum tapered covers - on a site catering to Piper Cub and Cessna enthusiasts.

            See you on the water:boater1:

              end caps

Yea, I thought about that. I guess I'm getting kind of lazy or just tired of working on everything else. I still need to find the vinyl insert that goes in the aluminium rubrail, white or black. Ho-hum....
I've also got the local Bimart getting some marine coatings paint for me so I can get the bottom of the hull done. While I'm at it, I'll be re-finishing the painted e-z loader trailer. Not sure what color to make it. The boat will be dark metallic blue on top and basic white on the main hull, so I guess it'll be one of those colors. However, the inside of the boat will be grey and navy blue, so thats an option as well. I've found that Rust-oleum paints are reliable coatings if you cut them with thinner and add a hardner. And they don't emty the wallet.

Try Wefco for your rub rail. That's who a lot of restorer's use. You can send in a piece of your existing rub rail, and they will match it up.
