Definition of tedious? almost every fastener is corroded or rusted beyond saving.

It is a slow process but in the end it will be worth it. I have to squeeze time into the boat whenever time allows.


All the windshield parts soon to refurbished.

After ensuring all attaching hardware to the rub rails has bee removed, then you can start to pry the rail off. I used some automotive moulding tools made out of plastic that I picked up from a very cheap tool outfit **wink** and some wood wedges.

Now that the rail is off, now it's time to make the final commitment!

Committed - it's a huge mistake or the right step with some extensive fiberglass repair in the future.

Not so sure it's brave, seems to me that it may be I have created more work than needed. I made the decision to cut it there. Stay tuned later in the episode for the fix

At least now I will have full access to the missing structure and deck so can start making templates.

My plan is finish the tear out and repair of the transom.
Sand the inner hull and overlay some plies all over.
Repair all the holes along the edge.
replace the missing stringers, and frames.

I am going to make a few changes since I can not restore the boat to original.

I am trying to come up with a material list so I can start purchasing materials ahead of time. Any suggestions?

90 yards of 1708 looks to be around 800 bucks ( I really don't think I need that much) I want to overlay the interior of the hull with a layer or two of 1708.

90 yards of 1 1/2 oz. X 50in. Chop Strand Mat looks to be about 250ish

I am going to keep the list in my first post as a future reference. I will have to take measurements of the runabout when I am at home and come up with a guestimation of total surface area.

PS.. No one said anything on the cuts. Raise your hand, How many did a face palm and shook their head?

I was disappointed you didn't cut more out No sweat. Just don't get in a hurry or fret about how much time it takes. If you save your clean, wood and fiberglass sanding dust you can use it as resin additive for putty/glue when you need it. Beats buying it. Do you have a local source for 1708?

No source as of yet... I'll start poking around pricing it out there is a place on 99 near Everett that I want to check out.

Ok thanks... I'll keep lookin but it looks like fiberglass supply is our best bet.

Yes, flat as I can see, I put a straight edge across it. Plywood is 1.5 inches thick and the outer skin is 3/16 thick.

It has about a 10 degree angle. I wonder how this will do in the sound?

I'm trying to not make this a long drawn out thread. So I will start posting after milestones have been reached. I make this post to let everyone know I am keeping a material list on my fist post. I hope everyone will let me know if I am missing anything. I have been looking but can only find bits and pieces of what is required for us noobs and rookies to the fiberglass world.
