75 Merc 500 Longshaft

I finished restoring a '58 Bellboy 14 ft runabout last spring. It has a '75 Merc 500 long shaft on it. I used a jack plate to raise the engine up to where the boat would operate properly.

Did Mercury make a short shaft model of this engine? Does anyone know where I might locate the lower end? My power head runs great.

The first thing I'd do is contact Thom Adams (aka Dr. Frankenmerc) in Shelton, since he specializes in vintage Mercs and has a lot of spare parts.
