July 9th is coming up fast, and it's time to get firm commitments from those planning to participate in this event. The number of soldiers we can host depends (of course!) on the number of boats that turn out to host them so it's important that we know ahead of time who's planning on being there. Not only am I asking that you come to the event, but yes, I'm asking that you give a firm commitment a month ahead of time. Demanding, I know, but necessary in this case.
If you can make this event (and I really hope you can!) please post a quick note (please reply to the copy of this post in the Main Forum) saying you can make it and also email me (or use the "Contact Us" link on the site) with the following info:
1) Captain's name
2) Boat name and length
3) Number of people coming with you
4) Number of soldiers you can carry
5) Phone number (preferably a cell you'll have with you during the event)
If you have any questions, or if you'd like to give me your info directly, please don't hesitate to call me at four two 5 - six nine 1 - zero one 8 four.
Remember, this event is open to everyone, not just paid club members, so tell your friends and give them my phone number!
Richard Amberson has been working hard on this event and has done a great job of getting things lined up. In addition to coordinating the use of the Foss Seaport Museum, he has arranged for a local Domino's to donate pizza and a local bottling company to donate drinks for the lunch. In addition, we have applied for a Coast Guard Auxiliary escort for the harbor cruise.
Please put this event on your calendar, whether you can carry one soldier or six we need you there!

For those of you who have missed previous posts on this event, here's an excerpt from a previous post with updates:
This event is going to be a very special one! If you are only able to attend one event this year, this should be it. At the Seaport, we will be hosting a group of soldiers from the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Warrior Transition Battalion. Warrior Transition Battalions are units set up across the country to provide medical care, advocacy, leadership and support to wounded and injured soldiers as they heal and transition back to either active duty or civilian life. (UPDATE: In order to keep things manageable for the volunteer captains and give the soldiers as relaxing a day as possible, this is an "adults only" event. We have invited the soldiers and a significant other to attend, please plan on following the same guideline with your crew. Also, be aware that all soldiers attending will be able to board and disembark under their own power, all attendees will be ambulatory. This is an authorized activity for the soldiers, so they are considered to be on duty and will be "covered" for any mishap. In addition, the soldiers will sign Hold Harmless waivers to release the volunteer captains from liability.)
We'll launch at Point Defiance Marina and run to the Seaport, arriving before 11:00 AM and tying up at the Seaport's private dock where space will be reserved for us. The soldiers will be transported to the Seaport by bus, arriving at 11:00 AM, where we will welcome them for a tour of the Seaport's museum. The soldiers will be treated to a tour of the Seaport's museum, including the working boat shop, vintage outboard collection and displays. Afterward, we'll provide a pizza lunch for the soldiers in the Seaport's large meeting room which is reserved for our use. After lunch, we'll take the soldiers for boat rides as time allows and as they are able. Some of us may go for a short slow cruise up the Thea Foss Waterway and along the Tacoma Waterfront, others may cross Commencement Bay running to Dockton and back. (UPDATE: Our float plan is to cruise up the Thea Foss Waterway and back out, making a counter clockwise loop around the harbor and back to the museum. As time allows, those wishing to do so may extend their cruise in the bay as they would like, as long as all the soldiers make it back to the museum in time to catch their bus back to the base.)
The Seaport has waived their $6.00 admission fee for participating members, however I urge everyone to make a donation or consider purchasing a museum membership to show our appreciation not only for their help in honoring our veterans, but also to support their mission of preserving the northwest's rich maritime heritage.
We will need firm commitments from at least 12 boats by June 1st in order to develop a passenger list. Please reply if you're planning on attending and give the number of passengers you have room for in your boat. Participating members should plan on bringing enough adult-sized flotation devices for yourself and the number of passengers you plan on carrying. If you do not have enough vests, let us know and we'll find a way to scrape the proper number together.
Please join us in showing our appreciation to these men and women who volunteered and served our country by providing them some good eats and a day of fun on the water.
