Went down south to take a look at it, and it seems to be a beautiful boat. Dick is a terrific guy and I spent an hour with him on what appeared to be a very busy day. Looks like we arrived at a price and if everything goes well (and fully expect it will) I will have my third (can you believe that?) Skagit. If I get it altogether sans navigation gear, then I'll bring it to Lake Washington. I hope the plan will come together, otherwise I will be there with my thumb out.

Reason I did this, is with the speed I'm going with the 17 there is just no way that I can get it completed during the first half of the season. Right now it seems whenever I get time to work on it, it is pouring down rain. That ski master while being smaller and lighter, is essentially ready to go and I like that.

Dave, Dick who ? The one that was at the Seattle boat show ? ? Huh ? My wife does not let me go to boat shows anymore. Whose's was there?

        Dick Dow, Chuck.

This is a really nice boat, I drove it at the Skagit 50th B D Party.

Update and encouragement for next Saturday.

Unwrapped the boat and installed the battery, added fuel and the merc took off like 60 angry horses kept in the barn all winter. They are ready to run at 4300 rpm, and them horses hate to hear the sound of "woo".

I’m a little surprised there is not more interest in the trip. What more could you ask for? A simi-long interesting cruse along a fresh water lake with beautiful homes, then into a waterway with sea going North Pacific fish boats and tugs and great views of the skyline of Seattle. Along the way we will pass the floating homes tied to the shore of Lake Union that makes Seattle unique (sleepless in Seattle).
Afterwards we will tie to a public dock and go to lunch around the South End of Lake Union, this dock is within sight of the Wooden Boat Shop.

And if the weather is not the best in the world, then there are restaurants to eat lunch right at the boat ramp, which will allow us to still go boating if we want and stay close to shore and not brave the wild, windy, waves in the far north reaches of Lake Washington.

Spring is here--- some rain remains, more sun and sometimes a little wind. Dress warm and come out and play. I’m sure you will enjoy yourself.

The trip is Saturday March 30th.

Yep wish I could go, but it's the last day of our son's skiing lessons, and Solstice is not ready yet for this year, and I still haven't finished the online boating license course, so a perfect storm for me of not going... Sorry! On the other hand I'll get to ski on 12" of fresh snow! Have a good time everyone!

                Sean,
I support boating education, this is a good move on your part, I've taken boating courses four times over the years. Each time I learn something new.

Boating safety training: A few recollections.

It appears that the problem with a boating safety course, is not whether it's a good idea or not like it was in the power squadron days when I took my 1st one. Today if they pull you over and you don't have one you will be contributing to the state treasury with some prejudice.

The state is now into training and examinations for people that interact with them. About the time I did the boating safety course, I also had to take the examination for legal guardianship. Believe it or not it was easier for me than a boating safety course. My main grief with the boating safety course were with the sections that had to do with things I had never done.

If you take the course that they offer and make a serious attempt to learn the stuff the course isn't that hard. I don't think I missed a single question on the final exam.

I study up on it back in 2008 for a few nights and took it ONLINE and passed. For my age i did not need to take it being i was born before 1955 , but it does not hurt. I have taken other course's before this but this one counts. If a person studies it for a couple day and then takes it ONLINE you can be out on the waters the next day as you just print off a copy of your passed course. Chuck

Not looking good for the red boat

Well, I am really excited about this event but unfortunately it doesn't look like its going to work out for me to attend... Our go to southend babysitter (grandma) is busy Saturday and I am not prepared to take our 7 month old out in the open runabout by myself in March (as his first ever boat experience)... Some how I am sure the state would be against this as well...

If something changes this week I will let y'all know. Hope there is a decent turnout and hopefully the weather gods will take pitty on those who brave the waters.

On a completely different subject, ha, I was going to post on this thread that I would be trying to join the group on Saturday for the Lk. Washington cruise.
We'll most likely be choosing a ramp either at South Bellevue or Mercer Island to launch and rendezvous close to Coulon.
Using burgundy and cream Skagit 20.

trip is cancelled, sorry about this.

I will have to cancel, I injured myself out boating this weekend. My wife and I were in La Conner at the Marina, I fell in the boat and dislocated my shoulder and broke my arm. Made it to the emergency room in 20 minutes--- 15 hours later they got me patched up in sling. This was not a good boating experience, most pain I’ve ever been in.

The trip can still happen, just meet at the Park and go without me. Forecast looks good for Saturday.

If there is a group and interest I could ride along with someone and lead the flotilla and be Captain Bligh.

                              What a catastrophe!

Very sorry to hear about your accident. So far have only broken my wrist but you're right it's definitely not pleasant.

Take care of yourself and if they gave you pain killers, be sure and take them. That's what they're there for, and they will make the whole procedure a lot more palatable. Right at the start of the boating season is not a good time to be wearing a cast, but I think in a week or so you'll feel a lot better.

Perhaps that's why they give an Admiral his own bridge, and a bunch of Marines to guard him. He is a very important person, when it comes to taking the boats on a cruise.
