Hi everybody, Lowell will not be bringing his boat this Sat. but he will be riding with me (GregJ) so the event is still on. I will be at Coulon Park in Renton around 10a. and leaving the dock at about 11a.. The plan is to go down the west side of Mercer Island (not the eastside) down past Stan Seyers at around 11:30 and then north to the cut. We will hang out at the north west end of the 520 bridge between 12 and 12:30 and then continue on to Lake Union. You can contact me on UHF channel 69 or cell #206 790 1725. The weather is going to be great so this should be a great cruz. Hope to see you there.

Sorry to hear about your arm Lowell.
I thought about you all as I was driving up to the pass for the last day of skiing!...
The boating exam wasn't 'hard' I only missed 1 question, what irks me, is that I was forced to waste 3 hours of my time, before I could take the stupid test. I mean honestly the section on port and starboard, took 2 minutes, (I know because there is a helpful timer), as if I didn't learn that in the NAVY! I'm all for education, and as an injury lawyer I know that increasing education causes injuries and deaths to decrease, I just wish I could have 'challenged' the test...
On the plus side I've finally been able to work on Solstice a little bit, so maybe I can splash her again soon....

So sorry to hear about your arm Lowell! Diane and I can really relate to that when she fell last June in Utah and broke her arm and her shoulder in four places. She is still doing some physical therapy sessions to increase mobility.
Hang in there, broken bones heal amazingly fast all considered.
Sorry we can't make the meet this weekend, we're out of state, but I hope someone will post some photos for us wish-we-could-be-there-members. Looks like your weather will be great for it!

        Best, Kent

            farming not boating

I would love to get out on the water, but I am hand planting an acre of Buckwheat this weekend. I think I need to buy a seed drill.

The shop is almost done, final inspection next week and then I can move in and get started on all my projects including the Bell Boy completion.

Have fun guys, I'll be there next spring, maybe this fall, who knows.

Hi ya, So far I've heard several people say they might make this event. Bruce and Toby might be launching at Stan Sayers, along with hopefully Greg Lamp, Chuck C and Bruce B might be launching at Newport and Andy is going to try to meet us somewhere between Lake Union and Lake Wash.. Hope to see Andy's new boat. If you think you might be able to make it please let me know so we can be looking for you. Lowell and I will be leaving Coulon at about 11a.. My cell # 206 790 1725 or UHF 69 are the numbers to use if you need to contact me on Sat..

                  Greg:

While it's a small "technical point" you might try using VHF on your Marine radio. You will probably have more people listening on VHF Chan. 69, then the alternative.

I hope you don't mind me commenting here.

Technical Review: Boater Calling Channel (VHF Channel 9)

We may use channel 16 to call a ship or shore station, but if we do so, we must be brief! I recommend that this same procedure be used over channel 9. Channel 9 is used as a calling channel and is intended exclusively for the use of boaters.

In this case, as I understand it Channel 9 would be a better channel to use as a calling frequency.

                  For example:

BLUE DUCK: "Mary Jane, this is Blue Duck" (the name of the vessel or MMSI being called may be said 2 or 3 times if conditions warrant)

MARY JANE : "Blue Duck, this is Mary Jane. Reply 69" (or some other proper working channel)
intended exclusively for the use of boaters.

                  BLUE DUCK: "69" or "Roger"
                  Dave

14 Skagit Sportster Blue (formerly red)
                  16 Skagit Skimaster (blue)
                  17 Skagit

                  18 Skagit Runabout (1961?)

Dave, UHF was a typo. I ment VHF.

Kudos to Greg for taking over the event organization when needed!

We are planning to join the group as they pass Stan Sayers at 11:30. Of course, don't wait for us, but we'll do our best to be on the water when you come around Seward Park.

I just installed our new home made windshield on the boat yesterday. Looking forward to trying it out and especially to meeting everyone!

                        All the Best!

Enjoy, wish I was with you

Thank you for all the kind words and thoughts, I had a doctors appointment today and he said it was a bad idea to even ride along. If I don't bump or jar my broken ball on the end of my arm bone, surgury will not be needed. This means I will heal 8 weeks sooner. Recovery is now at 6 weeks with limited use.

The weather looks great everything is lining up for a perfect ride. Have fun and I hope to meet up with members on another Summer outing.
