  • La Conner show

The LaConner car and boat show will be August 10th. It is one of the largest gathering of NWCBC members. It is a great time to get to know one another. Park your boat and sit around and talk old boats. There is lots to do. Car show, boats in the water, and the town of LaConner. One of the best tourist traps in Washington. Keep the credit card in your pocket. I really think we need an informal gathering of members to meet outside of the forum. It is so easy to take what someone says on a forum out of context and get the wrong impression. We really need to build some enthusiasm in NWCBC and face to face meeting I think would really help. I am taking a really big gamble that anyone will still like me after meeting me face to face. You don't have to bring a boat to come to the gathering. Most boats are not show boats, so a boat pulled out of the blackberries is fine all the way to Chucks 20ft Skagit which won people's choice for fiberglass boats. Come to the show. Clint

Come one, Come All to LaConner Car and Boat Show

If you have never been to LaConner, its a Must See town.
If you have seen it, then you know it is sure worth going to and enjoying it again.
In case you didn't know, its also the Home of the Skagit boats as well.

I tend to agree with Clint. We need face time, time to get together and just talk and swap story's about old boats or whatever.

Oh, and pretty sure your going to like Clint. He is very likeable :BigWink1:

I am hoping to make this one myself this year so please, try to plan around and make this event, take lots of pictures and enjoy the quaint little town VeryBigSmile

Clint, we are hoping to make the event this year. All depends on some Oregon guests that are supposed to arrive about that time but I'm hoping I'll have that day free. My boat will be "as is" due to all the crabbing we've been doing with it lately though. Not exactly showboat condition at this time, but it always seems to attract attention whenever I take anywhere. Hopefully it will be of interest to showgoers. It would be great to see some familiar faces again this year.

Everyone that's considering, and, of course, those of you that may not be (yet) should try to make this event.
It's a perfect venue to enjoy and talk about boats. From the beautiful craft that make it to La Conner by water to the trailer boats to the classic cars, there's something for everyone.
Our wives and girlfriends and sig others have a town to explore, scenic points in town to view the channel.
Bring lawn chairs, etc, and plan to "hang" for the day or a couple of hours.
The traffic issues from the Skagit River Bridge have all disappeared, hopefully the weather will co-operate (always does...)

We'll be bringing one boat, Clint !

Kent- that's a beautiful, cool boat- it'll look great ! hope to see you and Diane !

              I am hopeful

I am hoping to make it this year with the Chris Craft. I am working on a display board for the Chris Craft with history and photos (got to do something to compete with Chuck and his always impressive displays)...

As an extra incentive to those who may be considering, I will have our new (1 yr 2 day old) baby boy with me for his first NWCBC event!!! Michele is working that day so I get to have "baby and me" time!!!

              Hope to see everyone there!!!

The LaConner show is fast approaching. We have some boats pre-registered, but registering the day of the show is the most common way of registering. Hoping for a big turn out. We really need to start having events and people attending the events. We don't care if your boat is a show rig or a blackberry refugee. Bring your lawn chairs and we all can sit around and talk old boats. I need to start getting my boat ready for the show. Clint

So far we have ten trailer boats committed to the show. We usually have over 20. Hopefully we will get lots of boats the day of the show. Will post a picture that this show is not just for show boats, but to have lots of fun and get together with other boaters. Clint

LaConner show this Saturday. Hope some of you make it. Haven't had much response on the forum. The participation in events seems to be way down this year. Clint

Seems our coordinators for some of the events canceled due to the lack of interest.

I shipped off a bunch of tri-folds to Ingvar who said he would be up to the show to pass them out to anyone interested.

Maybe its time for someone at the helm ?

Anyway, I hope you get more just showing up Clint.

Its like I said people, this is a place to see and enjoy. LaConnor is where the Skagits were born for one...

                      Speaking of Skagits.
Have you heard from Tim Jones and the Saratogan to see if she will be at the show?
I would think that is a given if he is not busy.

So Clint. Can you tell us more about the town, maybe some history and some things to see other then just the boats.
I mean if the lady's are coming are there quaint little shops to see. In fact, what all is there to see ??

Tim Jones will be bringing the Saratoga. He might even be giving some rides. Not sure of that. LaConner is a very tourist friendly town. Antique shops, art galleries, glass blowing, lots to look at for the wives. The car show usually draws about 120 cars, and I know we have at least 10 boats on the docks. It is a fairly unique show in that it offers cars, trailer boats, moored boats, and downtown LaConner is a block away with all its shops. It is time for the club to get together. Clint

LaConner Washington Car and Boat Show.

I was at LaConner when we had the Skagits 50th anniversary which was too long ago. I only remember enough about the town to know I needed to return as it was one of those towns that you really had that feel of Made in America. I mean the history alone is pretty cool to start with.
Hell, its been around since 1867 and any town like that with a major water way that pass's right in front of it is going to have some good history.
The bridge alone is even famous. People have seen it but I don't think a lot of folks realize were it was for sure.
From that bridge you could see the old Skagit Boat Factory, or where it was anyway. (and Don and Sharons were the 50th party was held)

And to think, the Skagit Saratogan is said to be their. I mean, they only built Three of these boats and Tim Jones took years to restore one.

Lets see if I have a picture or something that shows it.
Yep, also my 20ft Offshore back when Greg James named her Purple Haze for me. Odd colors she was...
Anyway, here is a link to the town and shows one of the marinas.

I am still hoping I can make it down... But, we are planning Declan's first birthday party for Sunday and we are now up 55 people so I have a lot of prep work to get done before hand... If I can get all my stuff done by Friday night I will be in Laconner with the Chris Craft Saturday morning, otherwise I will regrettably post my nonattendance on here so y'all don't save me a spot...

Anyone know how to make a smash cake? Also, any suggestions for quickly baking 55 cupcakes?:nono1:
