Man! The Oregon state marine board was a piece of cake. We were in and out in 15 minutes with a permit to operate for $86.
But the stinkin' DMV insists that I remove the boat from the 50 year old rusty, squeaky boat trailer so they don't have to get on the pavement to "inspect" the vin.
I went through 3 levels of authority up to the reigonal manager, and no dice. The boat has to go.
Never mind most trailers 50 years ago didn't even have VIN's.
Never mind the plate is so corroded the VIN can only be read with a magnifying glass under ideal lighting.
Never mind the pile of paper evidence including a bill of sale from the city of Portland when it was impounded and sold off.
The VIN MUST be inspected by a petty government bureaucrat and still pay almost $200!
So I got the boat off the trailer.
I just hope I don't have to pick up the trailer so they don't need to bend down to see the plate.
