Great viewing pleasure,it was worth the time.
Too bad the Boeing family was into Horses and faster boats.
I can`t believe this city couldn`t muster enough effort to refurb the old chunk of Alum.
To build today would cost just a bit more,and re-building salted alum just doesn`t work too well.
Too bad they didn`t have Epoxy primer back then.

Great videos!
Too bad our state government doesn't see the potential of an iconic vessel such as Kalakala. She could be turned onto a floating museum and outfit her with modern hybrid propulsion with all sorts of modern upgrades and cruise around the west coast as does Lady Washington. She sure is beautiful. I think her skin is steel, not aluminum.

Yeah, Paul Allen could restore Kalakala from his lunch money!

Paul Allen could call it the "Viking Kalakala" and have huge mechanical Oars coming out of both sides to propel it.
Would make for a good Red Bull racer theme at the very least.....
The state could make out if they simply plopped the upper half of the Kalakala onto a stripped retired Ferry.....it`s even oval shaped by chance.
I wanted it for a Second Hand Marine Store with finger piers for waterside parking.
Probably best to drydock,fill with Concrete Lightweight and park her high and dry.

It is steel, except for the wheelhouse. That's copper to keep the compass from getting whacked out. I spent a few Saturdays on working parties when it first came back to Seattle. I swept up a lot of loose rust and it needed paint then to keep it in check. They did what they could. I doubt any work has been done on it since Steve Rodrigues bought it. I drove past it today and it appears to still be floating, but doesn't look like it should be. That bit in the video about the Peralta's bow going under water in heavy seas wasn't quite right. It had ballast tanks on both ends and as it came in to the dock, they would fill the stern tanks to counteract the weight of the passengers standing on the bow. That time they filled the wrong tanks. Oopsie! I don't think it still has that original radar either.
