  • Sleep walk by Les Paul

Those of you that grew up in the 50's and 60's will remember Sleep Walk by Santo and Johnny. One of the first albums I bought as a young teen. Here is a great cover by none other than Les Paul, recorded live at the Iridium in NY on Les's 90th birthday. Enjoy...

If you get a chance, listen to the Jeff Beck live version too...and then there is always the original Santo and Johnny original which is amazing, especially for 1959!

    Music of the 1950's

    Tim -

When I was 15, in 1958, I got my first (and only) guitar and spent weeks listening to Duane Eddy's album, "Have Twangy Guitar, Will Travel." I took lessons, but never sounded at all like Les Paul, Duane Eddy or any of the other guitar masters.

Here's Duane Eddy (in later years), playing one of his all-time classics on the Letterman show:

Wow, That really brings back memories. That was on the radio as I left my house in 1967 headed to boot camp at Lackland AFB. Funny how great music can bring back memories. Some times I can't even remember my own name but I remember that. Thanks Tim.

As always Tim, thanks for taking us all back to a great time. Here is one of my first albums, Mack the Knife by Bobby Darin. That album also had Splish Splash on it. Yup, great memories.

Looks like I touched a nerve

We grew up in some fantastic times. The realm of music boggles my mind when I think about it. Thanks for the input and video/songs! All fabulous. WELL! here is the ultimate instrumental from the late 50's....early sixties. "APACHE"

If you'd have asked me if Hank Marvin is a household word, I'd of said, who?
If you'd of said Apache by the Shadows, I'd of said Oh Yeah!

Here is Hank Marvin at age 65 playing Apache live. This has to rate an eleven out of a possible ten. Written for a film by the same name.....considered to be the best instrumental from the 1960's.....Apache! Number one on the US music charts for six weeks............

I went swing dancing last night and have big band music running through my head at the moment but I remember the 1st albums I bought were The Ventures and Charlie Ryan's original Hot Rod Lincoln and still have both. When traveling long distance I have Ventures, Dick Dale (Nitro), Stevie Ray compilations to name a few at the ready when I need to make time and no traffic.

Just messin' with ya guys! Didn't mean to rain on your parade.

Not instrumental, but this is the stuff I was listening to in Jr. High -- Later, The Sonics played at Shoreline High School for one of our Friday night football dances. We hosted Merrilee and the Turnabouts once also. :cool1:

You youngsters are so lucky. When I was that age, there wasn't much in the way of music. We used to use people's skull to beat on with sticks. Then, Joshua came along with his band and we marched around the walls of Jerico and those who had them blew their trumpets. The rest of us roared our appreciation and the doggone walls came tumbling down. Can't find it on YouTube anywhere. I'm thinking the cameraman was up on the wall and the whole thing was lost in the rubble.

Here's another one. Just heard on the radio today. "Wheels" by the String A Longs. Around 1960 I believe.
