  • I think we made it ?

Wasn't the world supposed to come to an end on the 21st, like the sun was not supposed to come out. We have a pretty good overcast but its day light meaning to me, the sun is on the other side of all these clouds.

When will it be safe for me to crawl out from under the bed?

That is an excellent question. Depends on the margin of error in the AZTEC calender. Could be anything from a few weeks to tens of years.

I wouldn't get too cocky just yet. For something cut in stone four or five hundred years ago, the timing may be imperfect.

Back in the day, when I learned programming it was common to put in a card that had something like 999999 in the date field for end of file and a statement in the program like:

              1000 IF DATE.EQ.999999 GOTO SUMMARY

Now that worked fine if the date was less than 999999, something like 103184. But the fear was that the logic would fail if the date was 012801. Don't see how that would be a problem but by 123199 the technology had passed this problem by putting in automatic EOF information, etc.

In fact it proved that most if not all systems were by this time immune to that. Testing showed that systems could easily be fixed if they had the problem by changing a few lines of code....

The true facts on the 2013 mayan calendar

One day Xchitli was carving a stone calendar for the head priest.
It was close to quitting time and his freind Choahtle stopped by and said "Come on lets go get a beer its hot today"
Xchitli said "I'd love to but I have to finish carving this calendar for the high Priest".
Choahtle said "Aw don't worry about that old calendar, what's the worst that could happen if you don't finish it?"
Xchitli said " Yeah, it's hot, and it's late. It's not like finishing that calendar is the end of the world."
So off they went in search of a cold beer.

The Aztecs that I really like are two guys about this time that accidentally poured a bucket of water into a wheat storage container. They forgot about it until a couple months later when they went back and discovered it. The one guy says to the other: Can you believe that we left that in there for 3 months, I bet it tastes terrible.

But actually, it wasn't that bad! So the one asked the other, what is the Aztec word for water in wheat? Hebervisen, said the other.

Well, you know the story from then on. So in the previous story when the guys actually went out for a beer, they now had something to go out for.

I bet you didn't know that!
