With the great weather yesterday, figured it was time to splash the 'new' Sammamish Slough Run boat. It is a 1961 14' Texas Maid aluminum fishing boat. Rigged up a little trailer that was under a free G3 (thanks Chuck!). Beefed up the transom a bit and loaded a 1962 Mercury 45hp shorty on it. Jacked it up only an inch. The top and steering are era correct and possibly original to the boat. Screwed down some of those plastic fishing seats I had sitting around. We were not sure how it would do with both of our (rather substantial) weights, 3 six gallon tanks, tool box, extra props, pic-a-nic basket, etc, etc. Took it to Lake Stevens yesterday and was pleasantly surprised! Starts good (rope start only), planes easy and rides nice and flat. We played around moving weight and got a whopping 32 mph out of the old girl. Looking forward to the big day in a couple weeks! P.S. Cheryl may be looking for a ride from Kenmore south if the big lake is too nasty!
