1957 Skagit 20 Express.

Hey all. Just thought I'd drop by and shoot up a couple of pics of my project.

Boy how times change. Here I am on a different forum than my own. But I guesss it makes sense since my boat came from your neck of the woods & I know many of you. Anyway, thanks for having me if you will.

Some photos of my boat in various stages. This year will be the year it hits the water for the first time in who knows how long.

I have all the parts except one thing. The upper windshield glass. I know it's been answered before but I can't find it. What glass did they use? My frame is from a 17, not a 20. (thanks agian Marty for the frame)

Skagit 20 Express

I'm not sure any of us have proven-out the theory by actually going to the junkyard for old automotive glass and fitting it in our boats, but as I recall the Skagit express windshields were supposed to be from '55 or '56 Fords. I'd guess that they simply cut the glass down a bit for the slightly narrower Skagit 17 express windshield...but that's just a guess.

Somebody out there (Bill? Doug? Tim?) might know more accurately what the original glass was, or which vehicles it came out of.

Will be great to see photos of your boat finished and in the water...

This year it will hit the water without a doubt. It's been a long road with my schedule but finally, it's coming together. Even though I can go with plastic, I'd really like glass for it and I have a custom built center aluminum windshield brace for the frame. I'll reproduce it soon and show you all if anyone is interested. They're quite classic looking and provide superior center support for these flimsy frames.

I have two boats hitting the water this year. The other is the mini-boat project. a.k.a Torpedo.

Really enjoyed the pictures of your Skagit project. A couple more days work and I should be ready to start fitting plywood in my 404 Sedan so looking at your pictures really helped. I hope we both get on the water this year. Barry

If you work on your Skagit, I will get back to work on mine
Mine just needs the head gasket, in intake gaskets and get put back together.

Looking good. Excellent slide show! I really like the narratives on the first bunch of pictures. Very entertaining! Did I spy a couple early 60 merc 700's in one of the shots? Most cool! Love the old iron (or should I say aluminum!)

Thanks for the replies folks. I appreciate it. The motors seen in one of the pics are twin 1963 Merc 850's. That was the plan originally but for now, they'll take a back seat to the motor I'll be using for the first run or so... a Chrysler 105.

Now if we could get a little warmer weather...

It's been alot of work but will be worth it when done.
