I know that some of the NWCBC members are also ACBS members and may be aware of the Symposium this April, but I thought I would make sure the entire membership knew about it. The Northwest chapter of the ACBS is hosting a Motorboating Symposium here in Seattle from April 24-26. Most of the class sessions will be held at the Center for Wooden Boats at the South tip of Lake Union. There is a great line up of events planned including the following sessions:
1. Labor of Love—Why we do what we do...
2. Hydroplane History
3. Instrument Restoration and Preservation
4. The Art of Chrome—Including recommended preparation
5. Wood Selection and Application
6. How Boats Go Fast—What is needed to make a boat go fast?
7. Small Boats of the 50’s – The Transition to Fiberglass
8. Epoxy Methods – Riva Restoration
9. Refinishing Your Boat—Varnish, topcoats etc.
10. Classic Plastic: The Fiberglass Experience
11. The Fiberglass (Chris-Craft) Commander and the Ford 427
12. Running Old Engines
13. Classic Boat Valuations and Market Trends

Ted Pike
Ron Jones
Marty Loken
Dave Lobb

Although this is an ACBS event, apparently you do not need to be a member to attend. It may be a little expensive ($178 for the weekend, without all the additional events) but I think it is going to be worth every penny. For more information and registration check out the website at The Wet Edge.
