  • Get well soon Dr. Frankenmerc!

Dr. Frankenmerc, who also sometimes goes by the name Thom Adams, is slated for some overhaul work of his own soon. Those of you who know Thom are familiar with his habit of often spending more time at events helping others with their motors (preferably classic Mercs) than running his own. Others may recognize the image of his G3 blasting along the surface, blowing his hair back, often accompanied by a passenger with an entertaining expression on their face!

Thom, we wish you the best and hope your recovery is as speedy as your G3. Get well soon and let us know if you need anything!

I've always wondered where a Doctor goes when they need a Doctor? Working in a mirror on yourself takes some real talent...CutUp1:shocked4:

          Take care Thom!

Here's hoping the rebuild is as good as what you do to vintage Mercs--get well soon, Thom!

                  Got the right manual?

Hey Thom, just be sure that they use the right parts, assemble correctly, and follow the accepted tune-up procedure. Then all will be well. Let me know how you are doing, please, because you are one of the good guys.

Thanks everybody for the best wishes and kind words.
                      They are greatly appreciated.
The following is a write-up I update as needed and cut-n-paste to individuals and groups I have found to be my friends.
I use this since I'm not able to sit for very long periods yet.

It is now Nov 20th and to date I'm still trying to find something positive in my decision to get my back repaired.
The following is a generic cut-n-paste of my condition to date so if you have already read this from a private e-mail, just disregard and I'll write again in a few days - hopefully with better news.

I wish I was feeling better, but in reality I'm feeling pretty rough.
I didn't wake up immediately after surgery as anticipated and it apparently took (4) extra hours for me to come back around.
Then, since the surgeon had nicked the membrane that keeps the spinal fluid in with the nerves, and the risk of it leaking out and subsequently causing severe headaches and other related set-backs, I had to stay perfectly still, flat on my back, and under heavy sedation until they could be sure that the tear had healed.
That left my body thinking it still needed to shut down - a thing they try to avoid after surgery by getting me up and walking and eating as soon as possible.
So my stomach shut down, my bowels shut down, and my stomach area got hard as a rock.
and,...In an effort to keep this post on topic,...like we all want our classic boat transoms to be,...Hard as a rock.
I couldn't burp or fart, or eat solids or even drink fluids until they were able to 'unlock' everything with medications.
Eventually (Thursday) they got things moving again and by Friday I was strong enough to go home.
I was supposed to be home and walking around the lake by Tuesday the 16th so I am way behind schedule right now.
I'm still basically exhausted and laying in bed hoping I can get the pain under control enough to try and just walk from one end of the house to the other.
There is NO WAY that I'll be able to return to work by Nov 29th as originally claimed by the membrane hacking surgeon.
So,...Other than sitting here long enough to write this one I'm not even keeping up with forums, e-mails, or phone calls - let alone doing my part to keep the Dark Side up-n-running.
And for whatever reason the pinky and ring finger half of my right hand and forearm is now numb 24-7. How freaking crazy is that. Sheeeesh.
I'm drivin' my wife nuts and she has been trying so hard to make me comfortible and on track with my meds and food & liquid intakes.
She has been a true angel trying her best to deal with an old demon.
Tomorrow we celebrate our 17th anniversary and although she currently would just as soon run me through a meat processor - I could not ask for a better spouse and friend.
                      Gotta lay down.

                            Tough Recovery

                            Thom -

Who ever heard of an old fart who couldn't fart?

As others have said, everybody here is pulling for your steady recovery, and hope that in coming days you'll get past the awful part of this--without your amazing wife feeding you to the meat processor. (Yes, you're a lucky man to have such a great partner!)

                            Hang in there....

Cindy and I are thinkin' of ya Thom, hang in there. If your recovery is anything like mine after heart surgery, it sucks big time but after a while you can't remember much of it!

                              Take care of yourself!
