  • looking for help with boat ID Sabre Craft?

    Hello everyone,
    Greetings from Portland, Oregon.

I'm new to your boards here, so I hope I'm following protocall.

I've just aquired a 16' runabout that was previously titled as a 1968 Skagit.
Knowing that Skagit ceased production in 1961, I'm pretty sure, they had that one wrong.

From what I can figure out, it seems to be a Sabre Craft. I'd like to figure out what year and model it is.

    Anyone have any Ideas?

    I've attached a photo,
    I think...
    thanks in advance!

    Sabre Craft ??

Dan, I don't recognize it as a Sabrecraft. We had a 14' 1959 Sabre Craft when I was growing up. Sort of has similar lines, but the windshield frame is unique. Anyone else know what that is?

      The windshield, I know. Right?

      Tim,
      Thanks for the response.
Here are a couple links I found that that lead me to think maybe Sabre Craft.

These in these photos, I'm seeing the same accent stripe shape on the boats as mine. It seems like that my have been a "signature" of sorts...

Your right, I haven't seen a windshield like the one on mine before.

I'd love to get this figured out. I'm thinking about a resto on this one, but my Uniflite is getting jealous.

        Daniel,

That's my Sabrecraft on the Classic Skagit site, and if you look closely you'll see that although the side "swoosh" is similar, it's quite different at the rear and at the front. Sabrecrafts typically had the aluminium trim at the front of the swoosh. Also the hull shape is very different, most noticeably at the bow. All the Sabrecrafts I've seen from the '60s had a very similar and recognizable bow / hull shape.

Your windshield rings a bell, I know I've seen one like that before but can't remember where or what make boat it was on.

The windshield resembles the 1957 Glasspar Avalon. But the hull is definitely not a Glasspar or Sabrecraft. The hull at the bow is a dead give away on the Glasspar's and Sabrecraft's.

Do you have a title? If so what does it say? Does the windshield look like a factory job, or maybe a later add on? Nice looking boat whatever it is.

Welcome to the club. Now I get to look at two boats when driving past Safeway. May 21 is the club event on the Willamette starting from Cathedral park. Hope you join in since it is next door for you. :Runaway1:

Hi Bruce, I think we might have met earlier this year when you stopped to say hello while I was out washing the Uniflite.
I will mark my calendar for the May 21st event, it sounds like great fun!

Yes I did stop to chat earlier this year. Be careful with the classified and classic boat sightings on this site since you have room for a couple more boats in your yard.

                        Starline ?

My quest to identify this one continues. Looking around the web I came across a couple of other possibilities though I haven't found the same windshield design anywhere yet.
What do you think about the similarities between my boat and this ad for Starline ?

                            Skagit prototype

What if Skagit had this boat hidden away and it was forgotten about.

                              Maybe a Pacific Mariner?

                              Here is another possibility.
I'm hoping your discerning eyes will help me to solve this mystery.
