  • A safety reminder for wiring systems

I really should know better by now.

When it says "Maximum Fuse Size" in the wiring harness, you DON'T exceed that, even for a little while.

Attached please find pictures of the "4-wire to 5-wire" converter for the trailer lights on my tow vehicle. The tag on the fuse holder said 7.5 amps max. I put in a 20 amp, just to go 10 miles, because I had a 20 and I didn't have a 7.5 amp and I figured a 5 amp would probably blow.

I got 2-3 miles before I started smelling burnt electronics.

    Use the right fuse, folks.

That's about as long as those stupid adapters last anyway!

They last longer if you treat them right.

I must have had a good one then. I got almost a year of towing other trailers with it before I coupled it to a trailer I hadn't checked the lights on, combined with the wrong fuse.

      But, "Your Mileage May Vary..."
