Costco shelter

Putting up a Costco Shelter so the powercat can be covered. Have 4x4s, 2x6s, and pier blocks as its foundation. I don't think it will blow away. Clint

I had one on 4x4s mounted on pier blocks that were just sitting on the ground, and they would scoot around a bit after bad wind storms, but it didn't go far. Now I have it held down by rebar pounded through the plastic feet into the ground, and it hasn't budged since.

I still have up 5 of those suckers and had to replace one.
Now NONE of them move in even the nasty wind storms we can get coming up off the Hood Canal.

I just drilled some holes in some fence "T" posts (about half way up a 6 foot post) and drove them into the ground. Then used some fence wire to attach it to the tent legs (four corners only) and pounded it down even more as so the leg and foot was pinned down to the ground.
I have had them up three winters now..

Might be overkill would you say

I have 10 pier blocks with 4x4s bolted to them and then put 2x6s over the top of the 4x4. The 2x6s are different length then the 4x4s to add more to the ridgidness of the unit. I will put gravel around the pier blocks. I don't have near the wind that you have and all the trees keep the wind quieter. Hope a tree doesn't fall on anything. Clint

Good luck! I have (had) one that became airborne in spite of being tied down to two 4X8X20 peices of lumber mounted on concrete blocks. Fortunately the Dorsett survived...if anyone wants assorted posts and tent parts, they are welcome to them. ...just disassembled the %#)@&(! today!

Sounds like its not going to move at all.

Mine has 2 crossed spikes at each of the eight feet And its cross tied inside to the boat trailer. My spot is pretty protected, but we have had some Big south winds that scared me but the shelter didn't budge. I do open the zippers about half way up in strong winds so it does not puff.

Those things wouldn't last out my way. We get wind most of the time at 20mph with gusts of 40mph and that is just the little winds. Sometime it blows 30mph to as high as 80. A few weeks ago the people behind us had a full size tramplin and the wind cought it and it came of their 6 foot fence and then over a 25 foot alley and over our 6 foot fence and landed in our yead.

shelter tip

I'm getting ready to put up a costco shelter that was gifted to me by Richard Young and thought I pass on a tip that Bham Rick told me about. His friend secured legs to lumber around the perimiter and then bolted 2x6 or 2x8's running from side to side where the trailer tires would rest and another where the trailer jack would be. In this manner to blow over it would have to take the boat as well and if that ever happen the shelter,boat would be the last thing I need to worry about.:eek:
