If you have run your boat in the LaConner (Swinomish) channel, you may ask yourself, how do they keep the silt from plugging it up?
Well, every 3 years or so, the Army Corps of Engineers, brings their dredging equipment to LaConner, and digs silt for months, 24 hrs. a day, and it's not cheep.
This year, the Town of LaConner, the Swinomish tribe, Dunlop towing and the Port of Skagit got into a big argument about who would pay for the dredging. They finally decided to split the cost, due to the fact that LaConners main income is water and boat related.
So I ran the boat out to see what progress the Corps had made so far, not much. We shall see how how much mud they can move?
Last summer, 3 sailboats were stuck in the channel, at a -3 tide. One would think that sailboat #3, would see the 1st 2 boats stuck, and not go in the channel?
Not a clue!
Good holiday to all..........Steve
