  • I – 5 Bridge progress

I just ran into a couple of guys at the supermarket just south of the bridge.

They were dressed like yarder engineers so I asked them if they were that. They informed me that they were Crane operators working for the company disassembling the bridge. They said they had all a steel on the way and only had to remove the bridge deck from under the water. They said they are bringing in or have brought in a 80 ton crane.

I was also informed by a local dump truck driver that one of their competitors had been hired by the state to haul away steel debris from the I 5 bridge.

Seems that work is proceeding quite well. I was also told the rumor that a temporary bridge would be constructed very soon. Frankly, I'm a little concerned about load being put on bridges that were never intended to take the load they are now handling.

This whole subject to get a lot more interesting as time goes on.

I would hope they wouldn't drag there feet too long on a project like that.
But Hey, you can never tell about some states and what they will do.

Got to keep those freight trucks moving !!!

I have a friend of mine that is the bridge electrical engineer for Multnomah County in Portland. He says if we get any kind of earth quake around Portland, the only bridge that "Might" stay up is the St Johns bridge. The approach to it might not make it is all.

The Top Ten bridges in the USA that are in the worst shape, Portlands Steel bridge is on that list.
