Howdy all,
Been busy at work...working on a custom windlass for the schooner Spike Africa.
The owner wanted a turn of the century ( 1900-1910) style windlass with modern hydraulic drive. Been working on the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic end of it for a couple weeks now. Got in running yesterday afternoon.....none-to-soon as they had two charters today. Wow, what a project!
My son, his wife and my grandson were up last Friday, so we went out to Jones Island and spent a leisurely afternoon there. Brogan (20 months) got his chance to drive the Saratogan. Gotta watch that kid! He was turning every lever and switch........
A couple weekends back I spent a couple days in Prevost Harbor, Steward Island. Hardly anyone there. Sunday afternoon I was one of only two boats there. Weather in the afternoon (Saturday)was calm, but the wind picked up in the evening and blew 15-20 from the south-west all night. Next morning when the sun came up the wind picked up to 25-30, so I had to abort cooking my breakfast on the diesel cook stove. Wind laid down about 11:00, then calm again.
The boat was hanging on my small 5 kg Bruce anchor, unofficially my "Lunch Hook". I was hoping it held. It did.
Also spent a number of over-nighters at Jones Island over the last couple months. Always sleep in the cockpit under the stars and sleep extremely soundly!
Pics attached.....
Cheers,
Tim aka McSkagit
