  • AAA for Boaters ?

Is there a service that is like AAA for boaters where if you break down the will come and get you ? Just want to make sure I am prepared for anything.

Yes, Hopefully Chuck C will see this and fill you in on the details. After reading Lauryn's adventure it will be a must have for us.

trexton, I use Vessel Assist through Boat U.S., 800 395 2628 or go to West Marine and they can help you with signing up with them.

        Or, Boat with Others

When Chuck needed a tow, we were all there to offer help before they came.

Like AAA, plan to wait, drop anchor as it takes them awhile to get to you.
Its not like calling out the Coast Guard.

It worth every penny of the $116.00 ! ! My tow would have been $575.00 for a 6 mile tow. Call Them ! Chuck

Chuck very kindly referred me to vessel assist a couple of weeks ago. I called them, got the details and then decided to wait a little while to think about it and maybe explore a kicker motor as an alternate option.

Big mistake to wait. Cause here is what happens. You break down and call them begging to purchase your subscription on the spot if they will just...please PLEASE...charge your credit card the 135.00 (I think that is what they call the basic Captains Card) so you can then ask them to come and drag your "day late and dollar short" sorry _____off the water.

They politely decline because you now have a PRE-EXISTING condition. They will help but you will be paying their regular rates. The kind folks that ended up towing us found out the hard way last summer. They had an engine problem and called Vessel Assist for a tow. Turns out they had let their subscription lapse, so they ended up paying close to 600. for that little oversight.
