What I've been up to

Spent the better part of the week building the new helm seats for the Saratogan. Will stain them tomorrow. Still have to come up with the hinges that attached to the cockpit sides and the vertical supports. The cut out on the skippers seat is to clear the steering wheel. Made the plywood by laminating some Bruynzeel. Teal and cream vinyl will be cut similar to mid-50's car seats.

the seats look great. I like the cut out idea. If you did it to the other side would it make it more user freindly? Cant wait to see it when its done. John

Hey John,
Part of the problem I've been up against is that I've ever had the boat in the water. I can only speculate from pictures that the boat squats at certain speeds and that visibility forward over the long cabin in minimal, especially in bow high attitude.

To get better forward visibility, I've added very large 11X36 trim tabs and also raised the helm seats. Raising the seats has created new issues, like interference between the seat and the large steering wheel, which is set an an angle similar to a car.

Without the cutout in the seat, it would be impossible to climb into the seat....
