I'm looking for ideas for canvas tops. Since Helmar currently has the only other example of a Uniflite with a canvas on in a picture, that's all I can go off on how my boat will look. I'd like to see how you guys have your current/past set ups with them in full bloom (ha, you know what I mean) and stowed away. I can't keep copying Helmar, there's a point where it becomes just creepy..

Kelly, This is the way i had my Dorsett Farallon as far as the Bimini top went. I personally like to see the sun instead of have a canvas over my head. The only time i snapped the canvas to the windshield is when it was raining. It did have a full slant back canvas to the stern as well for overnight camping. The Bimini part was about $1000 that included the side windows and some other goodies like canvas bags you could roll up the side windows to store them in. The beam on this boat was 95" a lot wider than say a Skagit. That's one of the reasons it cost more than some others i have had. The Skagit " Chippewa " will also have a Bimini top that can be snap to the windshield ( yes it will have a original windshield ...i think ? ) being i more or less have to stay out of the sun now.

Nice! I think that's the first time I've seen one of your boats with the top out in all of the pictures I've looked at!

Here's the Skagit i had loan out to a Jack Dando for opening day in 2008 with the Bimini opened up. You can see how much bigger the 21' Dorsett Farallon was compared to the 17 Skagit. It seem to always rain on opening days. That was the only time i had both of the boats in the water at the same time.

Wow, that is a big difference. Funny, now you have a bigger Skagit than you do the Dorsett!
I really like that Farallon, you did a nice job on it.

The Dorsett is still a little bigger ( 21 Feet ) than the 1959 Skagit ( 19.5 ft ) i have now. In turn the 59 Skagit is a little bigger than the 1958 Skagit Bainbridge when it comes to the top cabin deck shell is higher up and the style like the shape of the cabin windows and the lip on the front part of the roof is not quite the same as the 58-57-56-55. You notice it when you are going into the cabin. One thing about the Dorsett was it was hard to turn ( TeleFlex ) 180 as it seem to take up half the sound to go the other way. The other thing was you had to keep it more or less wide open to stay up on a plane, even thought i had $1000.00 worth of Bennett auto trim tabs ( with auto control ) on it. I had the same tabs set up on another boat ( 28 footer) and they worked great ! I still did like the boat very much. The worst thing was that blasted motor with it smoking problem that was no fault of the boat. The guy who purchased it in CT when asking me about the motor on the phone , i told him i would go purchase a 4 stroke..a year later he told me he did.

I remember that project Chuck I installed the trim tabs...
The thing about my boats, my 20 Skagit Offshore, has a Hard top and then completed canvas all the way to the back.....My 16 Skimaster has the hard top on it. My Uniflite has a top that I put on and fitted before the boat was even ready for the engine.
Why you ask , because we live in the Pacific North West....That place that gets the bad rap for Raining all the time....Oh, wait, that is not too far off...
I don't like wet.

Chuck if that 150 was the XR6 then I know how you feel. My XR6 smoked a lot, so much so I was going to re-power my bass boat but finances at the time wouldn't allow so I dealt with it until I sold it.

Helmar I may end up copying your Uniflite canvas ...I really dig the fast back look with the low profile cabin. It reminds me of a classic hot rod that way.

I think I know were that motor came from and it was problematic from the start. Always a major smoker it seemed. I also remember the towing back. There were enough of us that had enough power that could have towed you back before you washed ashore too. Something like 45 minute wait I think...
It ended up safe and sound

I have No problem of having a twin. Well, just remember, mine is a 20 - 20 boat. Looks good 20 feet away and at 20mph
Really, you get close to mine, its not that nice. You will see brush strokes in the brown, nothing done to the insides....

Joe, Yep you are right about were that motor came from and it was a real crappy motor. Worst motor i ever had. As far as towing , i did not want anyone have to stop their day of fun to tow me back across the sound to Edmonds. Besides i might as well use my Vessel Assist membership. Thanks again anyway.

Well, the fact that Any one of us would have done that for you I guess was my point.
Not all of us have that (me) and would liked to have a tow.

JB ( Jim Brooks ) offered to tow me , but he had to go to a wedding right after that. Did not want him late to the wedding! That picture shows the only speed it would go and i did not want to take a chance of it turning off going across the shipping lanes. I wanted to stay outside of Miller Bay so that Vessel Assist guy could find me as he was not sure where Miller Bay was. One thing Vessel Assist would do is call the Coast Guard and tell them that we would be going across the south / north shipping lanes and in turn they would tell any ships to be on the look out for us. That made a person fill warm & fuzzy ! That was the only time Sheila went on the Farallon... The following year my son and i completed that run around Bainbridge with the group !
