Post pictures of your VHF systems in your boat

I'm looking for ideas on where to mount my VHF. I have an idea on where I want it, but looking to the club to see what you guys did/done or are doing for your systems.

Kelly, I like it more or less in front of me. One thing i would add on the VHF is a external speaker as it is hard to hear when someone is calling you when underway.

Thanks for the pic Chuck. I agree having it in front of you is a good idea. I also like having a clean looking dash without a lot of clutter, I'm kinda goofy like that. So I'm still deciding on the right location.

I agree with Chuck. Even the Bearcat can produce noise along with the water at higher speeds where unless a speaker is right in front of you, you can't hear the radio.
Because of all the noise and how hard it is to hear, first thing you do is key up the mic and holler into it and then the guy on the other end is going Huh

I found when using my 20 ft Skagit, which is a Log quieter than most, I was using my ham radio and using the ear bud while running. I was able to hear others and when I did key up, I was not hollering at them
You can put the radio pretty much anywhere but if you use a speaker mike or plug a head set into it, you would here everything.

Here is a Skagit I did for Mark Maguire. Complete rewiring and cockpit area. You can't see the remote speaker but its up behind the Garmin.

Thanks for the pics! By no means am I picking the Skagit apart, but if the speaker is next to the head unit, why have the speaker? Is the head unit just not as loud as the external speaker?

It was on Velcro and he could move it to a different location if he wanted.

ah, got it. I don't currently have an external speaker, but I also don't know how loud of a system I have. I guess I'll find out with the first run.

Finally got around to mounting my VHF two weeks ago. I like where it's at and it's loud enough to hear at most speeds.
I haven't mounted the mic yet but I'm sure I'll put it over the hole below its current location. Ignore the other random holes in the dash

We just use a handheld unit that I put on the dash. Our boat is quiet enough to at least hear that someone is talking then I pick it up and listen carefully... Not perfect but for a freshwater ski-boat it's more than most people have.:eek:

Sorry Helmar but everybody in my family is leaving town for the week-end so I got stuck with all there ankle bitin dogs and staining a 105 ft. fence. Believe me I'd really rather be at Mason. Have a good ass time.
