Hi, I was on here a few years ago when I bought a blue finned runabout that needed a lot of work. Everyone was a lot of help as I tried to fix it up. Unfortunately things interfered from me finishing that project, and I gave it away to someone on the forum. Things are looking better now, and today my husband and I went and looked at another blue finned runabout on Craigslist. It actually looks pretty nice. It has already had work done on the transom and looks solid, unlike my last boat. This one I think I could actually get out on the water! I wondered if anyone could help me identify it. The steering wheel said FiberForm, but I know it might not have it's original wheel.

Wow, Welcome Back !
I see your last log in was Feb of 2009.
Lots of changes have been made and our hopes of More More More boats will be on the water this year in all kinds of different events.
Looks like we might be having a Idaho Chapter now too thanks to Nick.
If I can get my plate clear, I hope to fire up a Oregon chapter too. I myself am from Sandy Oregon (on the way up to Mt Hood) but down in a little town right next to Fern Ridge lake in Veneta Oregon. Nice part about that, I am 52 miles to Florence Oregon which has a few little lakes around the area.
I can't remember what that boat is but might need a view from the stern to better ID it.
I also sent this off to Marty as he is pretty good at doing ID's.
Marty now has another website and now back into smaller wood boats and having a Blast at it.
Knowing him, he has always had that love for wooden boat so now he is building smaller rowing and sailing boat

Lets see if we can ID that boat for youHelmar Joe Johanesen

1961 17ft Dorsett Catalina.1958 Uniflite 17 ft

2 40hp Johnsons, several smaller Old kickers for a total of 12

I am sure you remember Chuck Carey as he was with the club from day one. We just lost Chuck and his memorial is tomorrow.
Chuck is now over my right shoulder now to help me safe on the water. We are sure missing him Big time already.
So, Yes, we hope to find someone that can help put together events in the Portland area.
I don't think we have anything going on at Mayfield (Mile marker 60 on Washington I-5) but was thinking that should be our Main Event as we have pretty much lost Whatcom to 4 stroke only and then Mason as the park is being sold for condo's (or that was the last I heard they were)
I am hoping we can setup a Mayfield event some time as our Main event due to size of the lake and being more centered between the Oregon and Washington folks. We shall see
Do you have any stern pictures of your boat ?Helmar Joe Johanesen

We can also start looking around for you too.
Boating is way of life Fun too...
Here is a P-14 which is like the one Marty and Mo used to do the Around Bainbridge Event.

Here is another P-14.

Or, are you looking for a 16 or bigger boat ?
This one might be a tad over prices but the engine is fresh.
Can't beat the ride this will give you plus I bet there is room for a porta poddy inside.

Here is a Classic for sure. Skagit Skimaster Inboard with a small block Ford engine (quite common)
This I would bet is one of these that will take up to that 40mph danger zone if you let it.
Marty had one with a Chevy in it and it was a blast.

Now lets see what the boys have available.
If my Dorsett was ready for the water, I might consider selling my Uniflite. But not until my Dorsett Catalina is ready.
Of course she would be powered by a 50 white Merc.Helmar Joe Johanesen

That Skagiy inboard would be a great boat! The 289 Ford is dirt simple to work on and shares about 90% of it's parts with the automototive version (cheap maintenance). They do suffer from a handling issue (Marty experienced it and so did we with our similar hulled Chris Craft) however it is very easily fixed with a simple rudder replacement or weld-on modification... EDIT: after reading the ad a little more I see that it has a new rudder and prop (probably from running aground) but that likely means the handling issue is already fixed!!
However, if you are looking for a saltwater boat the 289 Ford would have to be converted to closed system cooling or it will go away in a hurry.Brian Flaherty

Here a couple turn key options... Some just skirting the line of classic but still cool boats:
1970 Chrysler 151
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/boa/4903118217.html
Cool hull design makes it fast yet stable for fishing or other such activities.
19?? Bell Boy 404 Express
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/boa/4890179824.html
This would be a great classic, not clear what the seller is asking or if it close to water ready but for a reasonable price this would be a greay all around boat.
Now this one is borderline classic but darn if it isn't cool...

Thanks for the suggestions I like the little P14s, I think smaller is better. But really I want to hold out for something with fins! I know it's kind of crazy, but it seems like every year I see a couple finned boats come up. Probably as we get into summer more classics start coming up for sale. I think I'll know the right one when I see it!
