They are, however I'm showing her at the McCall ACBS show, at the end of July, and I would be embarrassed if it were to break down, while we were there, especially with passengers.

Refurb of the outdrive went like clockwork. We had a great day on Lucky Peak Reservoir yesterday. Only setback is that the tilt motor needs to be replaced. What can I expect for 47 years?

47-year old tilt motor. Tilt shaft was broken too.

Lesson (FORMER OWNER!!!!!) is DON'T hold the "Down" tilt button and wait for the outdrive to crash.

Looks rebuildable if its not shorted out, careful light sand blasting , armature paint and some brushes can work wonders.

John, I say this with all sincerity and with compliments, if ever there were a perfect definition of optimist, you fit the bill!

It looks worse in person. The field coil assembly is rusted to hell, as is the head assembly on the commutator end.

I bought a new motor for $50. The headache saved is worth the money.

The culprit....or maybe victim in this instance. I did find the broken piece, and the evidence points to the former owner (aka the kid) holding the "Down" button....clean break. The remaining piece picked up the slack, and I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did.
