    what would be the right size anchor to have on a 17 ft skagit i have a 10lb is that strong enough

    I just bought an anchor for the Marathon. West Marine had a nice little chart for boat sizes and anchor weights. For up to 15 I beleive it was 4 pounds. 10 should be plenty for you.

        Anchoring advice

        While I hate to open a can of worms here, the weight of the anchor is only one part of it. Are you anchoring in a lake? A stream? A river? Is there wind? How much wind? Is the bottom sandy, or rocky, or mud? The weight of the anchor, even what KIND of anchor, and more importantly how much anchor rope ("rode") you use depends on all of these things.
