I got this boat for cheap a couple years ago from a fellow FG member (hi Jim!). Did a little fiberglass repair on the floor and right side (deck was riding the hull and created a crack near the controlls area). Then it went out back under a tarp for a year. Picked up a donor boat also for cheap and used the seats, steering and power head off of it. Went thru my stash and found a suitable windshield. My daughter and stepson were volunteered to sand it down and primer the deck. It actually made it into the garage for a while when I converted it to a short shaft and my cousin put together a lower with a short driveshaft. While in the garage, it also got the flame job. Then it was back to tarp town for another year!
Last week was the last car race of the year for us (I started racing circle track street stocks again), so after putting all of that away, we pulled off the tarp and drug it out of the weeds. Finished up the controlls, set up a gas tank and battery and gave it a crank. Started right up! Found a prop that I thought close to what it needed and gathered up the life jackets. I was ready to hit Lake Stevens on Thursday after work but guess what, RAIN!
Well yesterday was dry, so off to the lake we went. Did some on the water tuning and played with the tilt holes. Boy am I pleased. Runs strong for a little 66 cu. in. 'baby 6'! Handles like you would expect, smooth and fast in a straight line, but turning is a bit of a challenge!
We went for the low tech Rat Rod (wally world grey and red primer @ $1 a can!) look on this little boat and think we pulled it off. Who says you have to spend a bunch of money to enjoy this hobby!
