Woody meets dock

AAARRRGGHHHH !!!!!!! After a accident free summer, seems I cannot take the old girl off the lift anymore. While warming up in fast idle.....the ancient controls sliped into gear, the boat went about 6 feet and into the end of the slip. Looks like the totaly perfect wood hull will need a little TLC over the winter. I should have my Capt.'s card revoked !!!!!!! ST

We've all done it at one time or another. Two years ago I was poking around inside the Boat Haven Marina in Port Townsend, looking at old boats, when my throttle jammed...naturally just at the wrong moment. Luckily, the target I bounced off of was a crusty, bulletproof old fishboat. No harm done to the collision victim, but it sure was embarassing...and could have been much worse. (Mark Denis filled some of the gouges when he did that nice work restoring the Bell Boy 16.)

Looks like you escaped without serious damage, too.

Good thing it wasn't pointed out "to sea" or you would have had to chase it down! Are the controls the boxy single handle white ones? Are they spring loaded to help you shift into forward?

Hi Ed....Yes , the old box, single lever. No spring loading. I would like to swich to a better system...any ideas ???? Hows your weather ??? Steve

I like the somewhat older 2-handle controls. Using those makes it seem more sporty like a stick shift in a sports car.

When I was setting up the Poker Run with Cole year, we had a mishap with a dock and my Tolly. The boat will always pull to Starboard when in reverse, so I come into the dock almost bow on, turn to port and click it into reverse. Usually pivots right around to the dock. On one of our last stops, I did the same docking procedure and as I clicked from neutral to reverse, the engine coughed and died. I now have a 6" long scratch in the varnish on the starboard side of the bow. Time to rethink the docking procedure!

Yep, I think Ole is right. All of us have done it at one time or another.
Not looking too bad, hope its an easy fix.
