1968 Slough Run Pics!

Hey Speed Freaks,
Another "Hallmark Moment...."
Hope these load without losing clarity.This will really bring back some memories for some of you veterans.
Anybody see anyone we know or can narrate?
Looks like even they`re going up-Slough in one image?
These came from Mr. Stan Davis,of Shorewood, who brought me a lower unit to repair but got excited when he saw my C-Box out back.He said he had SOME pictures but actually has a whole roll of them.
He`ll be getting me a CD of higher Quality as well.
We`ll have to move these to the Event Gallery at some point.
C-List seems to bring out some really great stories from equally great people.
Back to the Fun.

One of the things planned for the image galleries is a Historical section, with galleries for just this kind of thing. When you get the CD let me know, I'll get that section and gallery created. Cool!

Hey, WAY cool Tim & Tim. It gives me goose bumps looking at these pics.

Look at all the spectators lining the bridge and shores. Man I hate it when I think of all the activities that have been lost over the years. The slough race and limited hydros on Green Lake 3 times a year.

You are correct Tim.

Back in the "Olden Days", when I was a wee lad they would start by class in Kenmore, and race up the slough to Gateway Grove resort on Lake Sammamish. Have lunch, Make repairs, drag all the derelicts out of the pastures along the slough, and then race back down to Kenmore in the afternoon.

I remember it well, we went every year since the "Old Man" had a buddy with a little hydro and a screaming Merc, and we were required to cheer him on his way.

We would load up the Olds 98 Deluxe with a picnic basket, and lawn chairs and off we would go to Marymoore farm where the S turns were.

As I recall he always did quite well, so I guess we get to take credit.

The S turns are gone, the farm is a park, and the races are history, except for our yearly honoring of the tradition.

More Good Stuff

Thought I was back in the day for a moment,glad we have people to share this historical stuff with us.
I remember we had friends in the 70`s who built many Limited Hydros in So. Park that were World Record holders in several classes.
They were turning 110-20 mph laps with the 5 litre and almost 100 mph with the 2000 cc class.
This was on Seattle`s Green Lake with a mile and a 1/4 of a course,not the huge course they now run elsewhere,since they banned the gas boats at the end of the 70`s ,early 80`s.
They had the CopyCat,PussyCat,BossCat and some others that were mostly Mahogeny,painted and finished by the son and wife of Mr. Don Kelson.They did custom MotorCoaches/Busses and wood Patterns of Machinery parts during the day to feed the hobby on the weekend.

I missed a Free Glassic Boat last year and the seller later told me about a cool little Boat Museum with a guy who now is into old Classics,BUT used to build and race Hydros.Been meaning to stop in and say hey.......It seems Eddie Kelson has found a use for the Paint and Wood shop as Hydro production has moved to exotic Composites instead of Handcrafted Wood Hulls of yesteryear.
Today`s Race boats seem to fail totally instead of just leaking water as they sit.Oops ,briefly Forgot about the Slo-Mo-Shun.....my grandpa had a pc of it`s woodhull.
We`ll have to Edit our newer Slough Event pics in Black + White to give them a rustic look.....with maybe the full color version alongside to show it`s still going on.
EDIT:Stan sent even more today....enjoy and watch for more to come.

Here are some more from UW's collection which I've mentioned a few years ago. Could the first one really be from 1952 with what looks like the stainless wrap around of the motor on the shoreline? Maybe 1962?
