    Hi Folks!

My Dad (84) couldn't keep his eye off this Skagit 20 we found on Craigslist a while back. Here he is, the new proud owner, just bringing it to it's new home.

So I'm helping him restore/modify it to suit his needs - a nice NW/BC waters pocket cruiser that can fish. He wants to make it up to Alaska in it and I think a few of the 20's have done that already. Though the title says it is a 1960, I think the cuddy windows are the 1955/1956 style. The bridge windshield and top are not original (from the later 24' model?). They are just a bit too wide. We've since completely gutted it and begun the rebuilding process. Here's were we are now:

Lots of fun! Alaskan bulkhead - we want to cruise warm and dry.

I look forward to your comments, tips, suggestions, etc.. Great group/club!

    Welcome to the club!

I like the idea of the Alaskan bulkhead and am curious to see how you execute it.

Karl, that is the industry term for a solid back wall (with door) on a small cabin. Typically when talking about a boat that would normally only have a hardtop and canvas.

            Thanks guys.

Chuck, I'll give you a call next week sometime.

I'll be continuing the updates on this project in the "General Discussion" section under "Boat Restoration" - "Skagit 20 Alaskan Bulkhead". Look for it there if interested.

            thanks again.

Hi and Welcome to the group.
Yes, she is a 55 or 56 and built like a tank. As you can see from her water line she does not require allot of water to float her.
As you found out she has Fiberglass stringers in her too.

Was the cabin bulkhead under the helm windshield like the Off shore models or back with a larger dash and a sink on the inside?
Never the less by looking at what I can see in the picture you have the bulkhead out too.
If so, you can shorten up the cabin and put the head in the center up towards the bow like they did in the 1959 Offshore.

I think your helm windows came off some of the 70's boats but I like what your doing to the cockpit..

              Enjoy..

Thanks Helmar. Yes. She is quite sturdy and the stringers were in good condition (sans wood). The transom rotted of course. I found fine cracks in the gelcoat and fiberglass on the edge of the deck, just above where it is joined to the hull - from the flex of walking on it I assume. I'm thinking of gluing 1/2 plywood under the deck all the way around, supported by the various bulkheads. Here's a shot of the cockpit:

The sink and head were just inside the doorway.

There is always, SH, Skagit Hideaway*, or you can call me Lance.

*The word "Skagit" means, "Hide from the enemy." Apparantly, the Indians on WhidbeyIsland (Lower Skagits) were in the habit of running off to hide in the river delta when things got tense with their neighbors.
