Joe's Shop We live on the Olympic Penninsula in northwest Washington, a modern day version of Little House on The Prairie. We watch the morning sun sparkle on snow dusted mountain ridges and the evening sky melt in a glory of magenta and violet as the sun sets behind the rugged peaks of the Olympic Mountains. We harvest most of our power from solar panels and are working on adding a wind turbine - we live totally off the grid, meaning we are not hooked into the power supply system. As time allows we will supply information on our power system set up and diagrams - for those interested in reducing their carbon footprint. Days are spent clearing our 5 steep hillside acres, creating ponds and bogs for water control and wildlife support, planning and revising our organic gardens and flower beds and finishing our cabin - and have our summer "to do" lists! Joe can do just about anything. If it has moving parts he can fix it. His mechanical skills and ability to figure out complex issues have made the difference between us surviving here - and thriving. Me? I'm the gardener, knitter, canner, writer, and Joe's #1 cheer leader. Life can be sweet, when we pause to savor our every day joy. |
