Well my son and I picked up a dandy, from Helmar. First we ripped out the floor then the cabin wall and the sides. We separated the top from the hull, which was stapled together. The transom is designed to rot see photos.. The stringers were not rotten but the fiberglass job is horrible so we will replace all of the stringers, which will help make room for new motor. We then gently took out the windows and all chrome We have had the boat one week. We are going to paint the dandy coco cola red with white strip..We are looking for a cleit, if any body has one.

Nice work already. I like the fact your son is involved and seemingly happy to help, pure gold. My son likes to help...drive the boat, but he's turning 18 next week so that's expected I guess.
Anyway keep it up and keep posting updates, it keeps others motivated too (like me)!

Well we started sanding the top half tonight, did not get very far. Hey Helmar we found a old photo online with the dandy we got from you, with a hard top, do you know anything about it?

Yes, this was one of the original photos of her when she was in CA. But she did not come home with the hard top, which I wish she would have.
I don't think it was original as I have never seen one on Any of the Dorsetts thinking about it.

Can you get some close up photos of the stringers and layout ? I think they are different to the San Juan.

No, stopped looking as the one I had in mind, turned out to be a outboard. Now I am up in Quilcene working on the old place that I built. Its Totally and I mean Totally Off the Grid. Just updated some windows, changed the water pump system and doing some other chores and will head back to Eugene this Saturday morning. Then the hunt will begin again.

What do those stringers look like up towards the cabin bulkhead and inside the cabin area is what I am also looking for..

Another idea might be is to put a Wanted in our Sister club down south as that is were these old girls came from. Someone has to have that cleat.

We have not demoed the bunk area so no pictures forward of bulkhead stringers. I can take some tonight aft of bulkhead and layout. We found a merc 175 jet in Oregon so maybe another road trip
